Research ethics

Prepare to conduct responsible research with appropriate academic guidance.

The School’s vision includes a commitment to ethical research. Before collecting data or starting fieldwork, ask SGS and your supervisor which approvals and permissions apply to your project.

Topics to discuss

  • Whether your study requires ethical review and institutional permission.
  • Consent, confidentiality and handling of sensitive information.
  • Risks for participants and appropriate safeguards.
  • Use of existing data, clinical records or third-party information.
  • Data storage, access and retention arrangements.
  • Academic integrity, attribution and conflicts of interest.

Official ethics procedure

The responsible review body, submission forms and approved procedures are awaiting publication here. This page is general preparation guidance and does not grant research approval.
